Geraldton Home Geraldton, situated in the heart of the Batavia Coast just 440km north of Perth. Geraldton offers pristine beaches that have become a mecca for windsurfers and other aquatic lovers. With the Chapman Valley to the north and the Moresby ranges to the east, the city is uniquely framed. Directly across the sea from Geraldton lays the Abrolhos Islands –home to one of nature's most spectacular marine areas. A port city, Geraldton is the administrative centre of the Mid West's diverse industry base from a world leading rock fishery to agriculture and gold production. Other industries include mining, fishing, manufacturing, construction, tourism and boasts a diverse population of approximately 31,000. Magnificently Mediterranean, Geraldton is perfect to visit all year round. You'll find mild winters, balmy autumn evenings, summers cooled by regular sea breezes and spring bursting with the freshness of wildflowers blooming under perfect blue skies. The launch of the Act-Belong-Commit campaign here in Geraldton, will over the next two years target the connectedness of the Geraldton community, with the aim of building strength and support for everyone in our beautiful city by focusing on their emotional well being and positive mental health. Too many people have become socially isolated by the speed at which we live our lives and we have begun to loose our sense of connectedness and consequently what it means to be a member of the Geraldton family. "It's simple" say TJ and Lara "join a club, take part in an activity, phone an old friend, do the things you have been putting off”. Come on lets join together to build our sense of community spirit. The Mentally Healthy WA campaign aims to improve mental health in six demonstration sites in regional Western Australia. This will be achieved by increasing individual resilience and community cohesion. The campaign is the result of a consortium of Healthway, WA Country Health Services, Lotterywest and the Centre for Behavioural Research in Cancer Control, Curtin University. We also thank our Sponsors and Partners, in particular Pilbara Iron. Entire Contents ©Copyright 2006 Mentally Healthy WA. |
