Albany Home

Albany is a fantastic place to live! The climate is mild, the air is clean and scenery picturesque. A vast variety of agricultural and horticultural crops flourish in the pristine environment, including premium wines and first class fruit and vegetables such as apples, cherries and asparagus. A wide range of services is available so people don't have to travel too often to Perth , resulting in a proudly parochial community. This is not to say that life is all “peaches and cream” on the southern coast of WA.

Our region is not immune to the epidemic of mental ill-health that is sweeping the western world. The rising rates of depression, anxiety and other conditions that affect our mental health and wellbeing are cause for concern. However, we believe the Mentally Healthy WA project has the potential to reverse these trends, and will increase the sense of community and social connectedness in our region. Our vision is for a vital, dynamic and supportive community, where people can meet the challenges of life with resilience and a sense of satisfaction.

The Mentally Healthy WA campaign aims to improve mental health in six demonstration sites in regional Western Australia. This will be achieved by increasing individual resilience and community cohesion. The campaign is the result of a consortium of Healthway, WA Country Health Services, Lotterywest and the Centre for Behavioural Research in Cancer Control, Curtin University. We also thank our Sponsors and Partners, in particular Pilbara Iron. Entire Contents ©Copyright 2006 Mentally Healthy WA.
