GROW WA - South West

GROW is a community for mental health and wellbeing and offers free mutual support groups to help people overcome problems. GROW began in Sydney, Australia, in 1957 when a number of former patients came together after hospitalization for mental illness to find their way back to normal living and happiness. The insights, attitudes and practical helps that assisted people to recover have been recorded in our 12 step program of growth to personal maturity.

Being an active member of GROW can help improve your personal value, provide you with a sense of belonging and can teach you how to be a better friend and nurture relationships. GROW can show you how participating in the community can make you feel useful and confident. You can develop a healthy self worth and be motivated to help others. Your breakdown can turn into a breakthrough!

Our short courses include computer skills, cooking workshops, general fitness such as Tai Chi and yoga, language classes and arts and crafts. Milligan also offer a book club which meets monthly and a writers group and patch working group both of which meet at Milligan weekly. We offer playgroups during the mornings and homework tutoring after school hours for primary school children.

Our support groups include the My time group, Nixi group and Expecting group all of which are run by Milligan staff. My Time is a support group for parents and carers of children with disabilities and offers interactive playgroup for the parents and their children as well as some "me" time for the parents to get together, share their journey and morning tea. Our Nixi group is for young mums aged 14-23, providing support, information and new friends experiencing motherhood together. The Expecting group is for couples experiencing their first pregnancy, again, an opportunity to share similar journeys, meet new friends, gain information and support from accredited pregnancy counsellors and doulas.

A great many local support groups run from our premises including gamblers anonymous, al anonymous, widows and widowers, Parkinson’s support, stroke support, prostate cancer support and over eaters anonymous. And, being a resource centre, if you have any queries about support, classes or rooms for hire within your local community give us a call and we will be able to get you the information you need.

There truly is something for everyone at Milligan so come in for a cuppa and a chat or look us up online to find a course or group suited to you.
