The Beverley Stay on Your Feet community group was formed in May 2003 for the older people of Beverley to remain active and avoid falls. Since then the group has also attracted people from other age groups who require gentle exercise opportunities. The group is a vibrant community entity that meets weekly in the town hall and is led by four committed local people that are always looking for ways to make the activities more varied and engaging. After an hour of fun activity that includes a warm up, some stretches, aerobic exercises, elastic band work, some line dance steps and then a cool down that incorporates playing games with balls and balloons everyone gathers for a cuppa and a chat. The Beverley Stay on Your Feet community group currently has a membership of 45 with 30 people attending most weeks. Contact Lance Jarvis on 9690 1661 to find out how you can get involved.
Northam Over 60’s has partnered with Act Belong Commit campaign from the earliest days of the pilot project in Northam. This vibrant, local community driven group has existed as an important venue for recreation and socialization for seniors in the town of Northam. Over 60’s meets every Thursday from 1pm to 3:30pm for its program of speakers, activities, afternoon tea and visiting local groups of performers especially Northam’s children and youth dancing and music groups. Beyond the programmed activities on Thursdays Over 60’s provides a great setting for networking, dissemination of information amongst the local seniors’ community and also a social outlet for some that are socially isolated due to illness or frailty. Over 60’s group often provides support to other groups and events such as the Avon Aged Care games.
