The Mental Health Association QLD (MHAQ)

Description

The Mental Health Association QLD (MHAQ) is fast approaching its 50th year of continuous operation in Queensland in 2011.

Mission

MHAQ provides quality early intervention mental health services and programs that support the community to build mental health connections, develop mental health literacy and participate in employment as a foundation for recovery.

Vision

The Mental Health Association QLD envisages a community where optimum mental health and wellbeing is encouraged and supported, resulting in strengthened community resilience, and enhanced holistic health of all Queenslanders.

We aim to promote awareness and understanding of mental health in the community, to assist people to access relevant and timely information and appropriate services and support. We support the interchange of ideas and opinions across all participants in mental health, working to promote cooperation and involvement based on equal partnership. We aim to continue to build and maintain a flexible and responsive organisation that is open to new ideas and can adapt to a changing environment, with effective and efficient use of resources.

Our mhConnect Division is focused on supporting the community in making mental health connections, and promoting stronger support networks. With a wide range of useful resources available, our trained staff assist enquirers in finding out about local service providers, support groups or community programs. The team also deliver health promotion campaigns to encourage health and wellbeing.

Our MhLearn Division has strengthened its commitment to developing community literacy in the area of Mental Health through its registered training organisation - The Australian College of Community Services (ACCS). Delivering a range of both accredited and non-accredited training, ACCS is focused on building skills and knowledge within the area of Mental Health. Additionally, ACCS tailor programs for the community services and health workforce and deliver valuable Mental Health First Aid training and Youth Mental Health First Aid for the wider community. To find out more visit the ACCS site www.accs.qld.edu.au

Our mhParticipate Division is focused on creating pathways for mental health and wellbeing. Through a series of programs offering support and guidance into employment and/or training opportunities, the team is assisting people recovering from a mental illness to access opportunities for contribution.
