Broome is a pearling and tourist town in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, 2,200 km north of Perth. The local population is approximately 14,436 with many more visitors during the tourist season. The Kimberley region covers an area of 55,796km2. Many Aboriginal communities are located around the shire, notably Beagle Bay and One Arm Point.
Broome is renowned for its warm weather, beautiful beaches and natural attractions. There are several parks and reserves. Broome recreation and aquatic centre and the public library offer a variety of ways for the community to be mentally and physically active. Sporting clubs in Broome include squash, indoor volleyball, tennis, netball swimming, basketball and tae kwon do.
